On August 6, UPROSE hosted the New York City Climate Justice Youth Summit, the largest gathering of young people of color in the US. We were honored to have the Uprose family recognize the Our Power Campaign and kick off the eastern tributary of our quilt relay at this amazing and inspiring event.

UPROSE is a multiracial organization that works on a variety of issues related to environmental justice and public health in the Sunset Park Community. Some of UPROSE’s victories include securing the largest brownfield grant in New York state history, defeating plans for the siting of a 520 megawatt power plant, and ensuring a net reduction of power plant emissions in Sunset Park. This summer UPROSE has hosted a variety of events and actions related to environmental justice. This year they celebrated their 49th anniversary as Brooklyn’s oldest Latino community based organization.
UPROSE also hosted aworkshop on solar energyin Brooklyn.
UPROSE also hosts educational tours about the community, including a workshop on Sunset Park’s street condition.
