Hurricane Harvey

The Biggest Rainstorm On Record

Support The t.e.j.a.s. Harvey Fund

As we witness what the National Hurricane Center is now calling the biggest rainstorm on record unfolding along the Gulf Coast of our United States, the unprecedented flooding in Houston leaves more than 6,000 people in need of shelter and still many more stranded and waiting for rescue.

Climate Justice Alliance is proud to have supported member group Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services (t.e.j.a.s.), the oldest environmental justice organization in Houston, in raising over $100,000 for their efforts to address the toxic aftermath of one of the biggest recent climate disasters, Hurricane Harvey.

“One of the most dangerous unaddressed issues is chemicals present in floodwater. Our focus will be low-income areas that sit on the fence-line of refineries, chemical storage facilities and industrial zones. These are homes that are at the highest risk of toxic waters. Our efforts will focus on cleanup efforts in these frontline communities.”
~ Juan Parras, Executive Director, t.e.j.a.s.

“Harvey is demonstrating once again the overlapping, historical neglect of environmental justice and climate justice communities in the face of emergency. The struggle ahead in TEXAS, the Gulf, and across the nation is beyond lowering greenhouse emissions. It is a fight for justice, for dignity, for a future for our children that won’t be washed away in the next storm. It is clear that whatever we are doing now to address this is failing miserably. We need to support frontline communities to directly lead that struggle to a more resilient, regenerative future.”
~ Angela Adrar, Executive Director , Climate Justice Alliance
